All About Dollywood’s Milestone Year in 2025
Blue skies and butterflies. Modern luxuries met with classic southern hospitality. Bouffant blonde hair and roller coasters that are almost as tall as the Smokey mountains themselves. This is Dollywood. And Dolly, ever the savvy business woman, has been filling the parking lots ever since the amusement park first opened its gates 40 years ago. Splash Mountain is also celebrating its debut, which happened 25 years ago.
To celebrate the milestone anniversary’s, Dolly herself met with a panel of roller coaster tycoons (the Herschend Brothers), the media and special guests to discuss the impact of Dollywood. Humble as the pie that is served up at the Spotlight Bakery, Dolly recalled tales of not knowing anything about how to open a theme park, just knowing she wanted one. And what Dolly wants, Dolly gets. After consulting with the best in the biz, Dollywood’s gates opened in 1961 to great reception. Dolly joked that she nervously watched at opening time, hoping someone would show up. And show up they did.
In the same way that fans show up for Dolly, Dolly reciprocates and shows up for the people of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and… so. many. more communities. During the panel, Dolly recalls meeting youngsters while out and about. Instead of knowing Dolly for her countless country music hits, her theme park, multiple business ventures, baked goods (try this boxed cake! thank us later!!), perfumes or any other amazing Dolly product, the young fan recognized her as “The Book Lady”, which Dolly took as the greatest honor.
While Dolly was quietly proud of many of her accomplishments during the panel, it is obvious that The Imagination Library is her pride and joy. Created at Dollywood 30 years ago, this initiative first aimed to serve the children of her hometown, Sevier County, Tennessee. Three decades and almost 300,000 books gifted later, children ages 5 and younger all over the United States (and beyond!) are still receiving a book a month, mailed right to their doorstep for free. To commemorate milestone years, Dollywood is doing things bigger and better than ever.
June 14-Aug 3, the Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration puts the spotlight on live music, shows galore, bold flavors and soaking up all of the fun that summer has to offer. With extended hours, every night commences with a dance party and an elaborate drone and firework show. With so much happening from the moment the gates open until the last guest leaves for the night, Dollywood is the place to be in the summer of 2025!
Splash Mountain will have Splash Bash once again, meaning live music and DJ’s playing tunes; plus, there are tons of towering slides, a super wide-laned lazy river, multiple splash zones and more.
Tips from a been-there-done-that Dollywood momma:
-If you have a little one on the cusp of a specific rider height requirement, avoid re-measuring at every ride and have them measured at the Ride Measurement Station (located to the left of the main entrance) for a color coded bracelet.
-Dollywood is a very inclusive environment. Guests can visit the Ride Accessibility Center to discover resources that may be beneficial for their needs including a boarding pass. This sheet of paper allows riders to enter through a rides exit, ride attendants will mark the sheet with the next ride time, guests can ride the ride and then spend their wait time where they feel most comfortable. Dollywood has calming spaces in both its theme park and at Splash Mountain.
-Stay hydrated! Hot summer months and lots of walking are a mix for dehydration. Be sure to take advantage of the free hydration stations located throughout the park. If your family enjoys soda, be sure to buy a souvenir mug for $17.99. The day of redemption, enjoy unlimited refills-a phenomenal value!

-There are so many unique storefronts and makers at Dollywood. It is easy to check off some names from shopping lists with a visit to this Pigeon Forge theme park. If you are worried about lugging your purchases around all day, worry no more! Purchases over $25 are eligible for package pickup, where guests can pick up their purchases at the Dollywood Emporium Package Pickup counter at the end of the day.
