Project Backpack Gives Back
The 7 Hills Church initiative Project Backpack was launched in 2010 to serve local students in need. Since the project’s debut, thousands of students from 150 tri-state schools have been provided backpacks filled with school supplies, lifting a financial burden for families who are sending their kids back to school.
In 2025, Kona Ice’s franchise headquarters in Florence, KY helped the cause by sponsoring 200 backpacks!
“We are thrilled to team up with 7 Hills Church on such an important community initiative,” said Darren Varnado, Kona Ice Senior Vice President. “At Kona Ice, we believe in giving back to the communities we serve, and there’s no better way to do that than by investing in our local students. We hope these backpacks bring a little extra joy and readiness as they prepare for school.”
Each year both the student need and the donation support has grown. Project Backpack’s annual goal is to provide 4,000 backpacks to local students.
“7 Hills Church is grateful for Kona Ice’s support of Project Backpack,” said Jake Fraiture, 7 Hills Church Pastor of Outreach and Missions. “Their contribution to our mission will make a significant impact, helping us reach our goal of providing 4,000 backpacks and ensuring more children start the school year feeling confident and prepared.”
