Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s annual production of A Christmas Carol came to life on stage this past weekend for its 27th season.  The beloved story will be performed through Dec. 30 in the Robert S. Marx Theatre.  Starring Bruce Comer who plays the titular role for the 13th time, the Dickens’ classic features hundreds of costumes and spectacular effects that illuminate Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey on Christmas Eve.  Guided by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, the cold-hearted miser learns a valuable lesson of love.  Mom Reporter Shelbie Todd got an early look at the production, check out her review below!

Last night we got to enjoy the opening night of Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s A Christmas Carol. I have a friend, Amy, from Sweden visiting for Thanksgiving. I thought this would be a wonderful show to take her to. The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is such a beautiful theater. She had never heard of the story of Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.

The play was absolutely breath taking. The stage and the costumes blew us away! It was incredible how the scenes would change so seamlessly and the special effects really added a touch that took everything to the next level. My favorite costume from show was the jacket of the ghost of Christmas past.

From someone like me who has heard the Christmas Carol story over and over since I was a child, and someone like Amy who has never heard of the story…the play was absolutely amazing! We laughed a lot more than I was expecting. The humor had the entire theater laughing. I totally recommend adding A Christmas Carol to your list of seasonal traditions if it isn’t already. I know that I will be bringing the family back to see the play next month. Amy loved the play! I am hoping she will be able to visit at Christmas every year and this is something we can make a tradition.
