Construction for the brand new Playground at Sharon Woods park is underway. Located next to Sharon Centre, the highly anticipated new structure promises fun for all. The 10,000-square-foot inclusive space will boast play experiences for children with a wide range of abilities and themes reflecting elements of local wildlife. The project will be completed in the fall of 2024.
Playground at Sharon Woods Underway
In creating the the new play space, inspiration came from rocky outcrops and waterfalls in the Sharon Creek Gorge. Local residents and children shared their hopes for the playground as well.
“This playground is the latest example of our continuing partnership with the community,” says Todd Palmeter, Great Parks CEO. “It will become a signature experience that enhances Sharon Woods as a treasured regional asset,” he adds.
One accessible play unit will be in the shape of a crayfish; elevated “nest” structures will invite climbing and sliding. The playground’s final design came about through widespread public influences.
The total approximate cost for the project is $3 million.
