Child abuse can happen in the least expected places. And, when it does, it’s important to be there for that child. The Family Nurturing Center (FNC, familynurture.org) is at the heart of it all with this month’s activities and programs focusing on child abuse prevention. Get the details on events designed to raise awareness and find out how you can help save a child.
The Blue Ribbon
The Blue Ribbon Child Abuse Prevention Campaign was devised by Bonnie Finney who lost her grandson in 1989 to injuries inflicted by his parents. She tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her car as a way to remember the bruises of her grandson. The blue ribbon became a national symbol for child abuse prevention. This month, families and organizations are encouraged to “Build a Blue Ribbon Tree” — choose a tree in your backyard or get creative and build a tree out of random materials, and decorate it with blue ribbons. Send a picture of your tree for inclusion in the Blue Ribbon Registry at familynurture.org.
