Time for story time:
Turn the pages of the book,
Then we dance and sing!
Are you looking to get out of the house and have some fun with your little ones? Head on over to Cincinnati Museum Center’s weekly story tree time on Wednesdays!
Tree time begins at 11am with a story. The book read when we attended was Pepper and Poe by Frann Preston-Gannon. The tale of new cat siblings was read with gusto and enthusiasm that kept the kids attention throughout.
After the story concluded, the children got to moving and dancing with well known interactive songs. A dozen plus toddlers belted out classics like the hokey pokey, this old man, the itsy bitsy spider, and the wheels on the bus. It was pretty cute!
Class came to an end, but with the museum, there is always more to explore! 30 minutes of story time wasn’t enough for us, so we met up with some pre-school buddies of my sons! It was such a treat to see how my son interacted with friends at the museum. They would hold each other’s hands and pull one another in a new direction. “Follow me! Did you see this?”, they’d say, as they discovered something new together.
While I only have photos of the grocery store and meeting Shelly the turtle, it isn’t because we didn’t do other things; it is because the mommas were busy trying to keep up with our excited little men! Our dudes loved using simple machines in the ball cage, flexed some muscles and used gross motor skills in the construction zone, and I’m not sure what the story line was (I was too busy making sure my youngest got up the ladders and steps safely- he wanted to be one of the big boys so bad!), but there was definitely some creative dramatic play going on in the woods. The children’s museum is always a favorite destination of my kids, but I have a feeling they will be asking to meet up with their buddies at the children’s museum again very soon!
Overall, I think the story tree time in the Duke Energy Children’s Museum is a great free activity included with admission to the museum. I think it would be a wonderful weekly activity for infants to toddlers, as the story changes weekly, but there is still predictability in the format. Be sure to check out story time on January 27 at 11 a.m. when members of the Cincinnati Ballet production of Cinderella will be visiting!
