A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away … I was gainfully employed by Cincinnati Museum Center as the Manager of Youth Programs. I left the job to start my family, but I look back and cherish the time I spent at the museum, and I still call many of my former co-workers friends.
I was so lucky to be invited to the premier party for the latest Omnimax film at Cincinnati Museum Center, National Parks Adventure by my friend, and social media co-coordinator Maria Dehne (check out her phenomenal instagram profile @mdehne34). Sadly, this feature will be the last one shown for approximately two years! Due to building renovations, the Omnimax theatre will close after National Parks Adventure’s run (http://wvxu.org/post/union-terminal-omnimax-opens-final-show-renovation-closure#stream/0). Luckily, this feature is absolutely amazing! My date for the film premier was none other than my 4-year-old son, Dominic. I showed him a preview prior to our night out, and he immediately got excited. He thought the geological formations looked like Radiator Springs from the movie Cars! Haha! I must say, I saw it, too. During the film, my son was absolutely captivated by the breathtaking scenery. He got a case of the giggles when the camera was kissed by an adorable prairie dog, which of course made me laugh, too. While I was leaning back comfortably in my chair, he sat straight up, craning his head left and ride in awe! It was one of those moments as a parent, where I looked at my child being swept away in something, really being amazed. Those moments make parenting. He remained attentive throughout the entire show; there is an abundance of gorgeous scenery to take in throughout the movie!
The film explores the adventure that three people take to visit several national parks, and urges us to protect them. During the journey, viewers get to enjoy nature’s beautiful backdrops in Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier National Park and more. And the music is upbeat, fun and inspiring – including tunes from Bruce Springsteen and The Lumineers. I would definitely recommend the film! We had a wonderful time at the premier, and my husband wants to go back to get our Omnimax fill before the theatre takes a brief hiatus. And if you’re interested in seeing even more Omnimax movies, the Friday/Saturday night feature is Mysteries of Egypt. Show times are 7 and 9 p.m.
(Note for your consideration: there is a brief moment where forest fires are shown and discussed, so that is something to consider if you have younger, or sensitive children. However, my 4-year-old was not afraid, and it was over very quickly.)
