There are four more weekends of October left — that means eight whole days open for fall fun! And if you’re anything like me, you are making a list of must-see places and must-do events. I have a suggestion for you, make sure to add a visit to Neltner’s Farm in Melbourne, KY to your list!
Here’s what your family will LOVE about Fall Fest at Neltner’s:
The Fall Photo Ops
You can tell the Neltner’s take deep pride in their farm. At every turn, you will be greeted with harvest decorations; there is an abundance of fall flowers and foliage, scarecrows, giant hay bale pumpkins, farm equipment, and the COOLEST train display! It was hard to pry my boys from one activity to the next, my youngest kept squealing, “I’m having so much fun!” and “I am so excited!. Coming from a tot who is going through a “threenager” phase, that is HIGH praise. You will be sure to capture some great family memories during your visit, so make sure you have room for lots of photos on your camera.
Big bang for your buck
For $5 each (ages 2 and younger are free), you get to enjoy horse drawn carriage rides, access to a gigantic corn maze, a huge pumpkin patch, and petting zoo. There are even two types of wagons to hitch a ride on — a conestoga type wagon and a bright orange wagon without a roof. And since the rides were included, we happily took a ride around the grounds on the Conestoga wagon, and then we took a ride on the other wagon to get dropped off at the pumpkin patch. PLUS there is live music at 1:30 p.m. on weekends! For just $5 each, you can enjoy a whole day of fun on the farm with your family.
The Add-ons
Admission covers SO much fun at Neltner’s, but there are a few extras that your family will adore. Pony rides are only $3, as are rides on the super cute farm animal themed barrel train! If you’d like to feed the critters in the petting zoo, well that’s only 50 cents. You can’t beat that! We ended up spending a few extra dollars in the barn, because my sons loved feeding the goats and sheep! They thought it was hilarious when the goats would eat up an entire little ice cream cone in one bite. If you find yourself hungry, don’t fret. There is some great food down on the farm. I’d recommend the bean soup (which comes with a corn muffin) and whatever cobbler they are serving that day topped off with a scoop of homemade ice cream. Yum!
What else should you know?
The farm is open (and admission is free!) on weekdays from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. You can get goodies at the farm shop, pick a pumpkin, and visit the petting zoo animals. For $3, you can also give the corn maze a go.
Neltner Farm’s Fall Festival has a great deal on www.cincysavers.com, check it out!
The chocolate chip zucchini bread made locally by Little Rock Farm, and available in the farm store, is simply amazing. I have been sneaking bites of this bread every time I go into my kitchen. I will probably be going back for another loaf in a few weeks because zucchini means it’s healthy … at least, that’s what I am telling myself.
You can have your child’s birthday party at Neltner’s — give them a call at 859-496-7535.
And finally, the farm is located at 6922 4 Mile Road, Melbourne, KY 41059.
