Space, trains, science, DINOSAURS! These are a few of my sons favorite things. So when I heard COSI is home to a brand new Dinosaur Gallery, masterfully created by the American Museum of Natural History, I knew we were Columbus bound.
The new AMNH exhibit is home to a variety of dinosaurs! We were first greeted by a monstrous, snarly-looking t-Rex; then throughout the exhibit we encountered dinosaur fan-favorites like apatosaurus, triceratops, and stegosaurus. I was delighted to read interesting, current information regarding our prehistoric pals. For instance, only around 30 t-Rex fossils have been found to date … and modern research suggests t-Rex could only reach a speed of 10 mph. So t-Rex wasn’t as common, or as fast as we may have previously imagined. Luca, age 4, loved all of the hands-on components, and touch stations. He also really seemed to enjoy all of the videos playing throughout the exhibit, as they visually showed many of the facts we just read about on the exhibit placards.
Overall, the exhibit has a modern, clean look to it, and it is easy to navigate with children. There are lots of cool, educational facts highlighted throughout, and the exhibit is full of visually stimulating sights (giant dinosaurs, for example) to keep kids interested. We loved this new exhibit and had a wonderful time exploring it at COSI.
What else is there to do at COSI? Well, when we left the new dinosaur gallery, I figured Mr. Crawly Baby Man, Vincent, should burn off some steam before we headed home. The Little Kidspace was a perfect, safe place for him to crawl, climb, and scale until his heart was content! We also ventured to the Ocean exhibit for some water play, checked out the stellar space exhibit, got a snack at the cafe, and checked out the Thomas & Friends exhibit (available until January 7, 2017). We spent the WHOLE day at COSI, and still didn’t see everything; we will certainly be heading back in May when the Lost Egypt exhibit makes its return.
