Fire Safety with Cincinnati Fire Museum
Did you know that once a smoke alarm sounds, residents could have less than two minutes to get out?? Being prepared could save your family’s lives! Fire is fast and it is hot, plus the smoke is dark. But being proactive and having a fire plan can get everyone to safety if a fire happens to break out.
Consider the following when creating a fire plan with your family:
-Draw a map of the house and note all exits (windows and doors)
-Identify two ways to get out of each each room
-Ensure all exits are always clear and not blocked
-Close the door behind you when exiting
-Never use an elevator (unless directed to, by a firefighter), use stairs
-Designate a family meeting place
-Practice!
Additional important conversation points and activities related to fire safety include:
-Testing smoke alarms
-Identifying locations of fire extinguishers
-Discussing candle use (make sure they are away from anything else, extinguish them when leaving the room)
-Investigating electrical cord safety (check for frays, avoid overloading outlets, never run cords under rugs/carpet)
Cincinnati Fire Museum has a brand new immersive exhibit opening on Thursday, October 23rd at 7 p.m.
WE ARE CFD—Who We Are and What We Do uses cutting-edge technology to transport visitors into the heart of a firefighters workday.
