Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky have some absolutely amazing educators! Including Alliance Academy of Cincinnati‘s Kendra Banks. Let’s get to know her a little bit better…
1. What was your favorite subject growing up?
I have always had a strong connection to English Language Arts. Growing up, it was my favorite subject because I loved reading and discovering new and interesting ideas. Books allowed me to explore different perspectives, learn about the world, and use my imagination.
2. What clubs and extracurriculars did you take part of as a student?
I was very involved in extracurricular activities throughout my school years. I was a cheerleader and had the honor of serving as the captain of my high school’s first pep squad, where I developed leadership, teamwork, and school spirit. In addition, I was a member of the STEM program, which allowed me to explore problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation.
3. Who influenced you to go into teaching?
In high school, I was part of the Teaching & Technology program, which helped grow my passion for teaching and inspired me to make a difference in young students’ lives. This experience allowed me to explore the role of an educator and confirmed my desire to positively impact children both academically and personally.
4. What is your favorite part of your daily teaching life?
Watching students grow and evolve each day is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. Even the smallest achievements feel like big victories, and those moments continue to inspire and motivate me as an educator.
5. How many years have you been teaching?
I have been working in the field of education since 2015. Over the years, I have gained experience in a variety of roles, including paraprofessional, office administrator, technology teacher, and intervention specialist. I currently serve as a second-grade teacher, where I continue to grow professionally and make a meaningful impact on my students each day.
6. In what ways are you active in your school’s community (coaching/clubs/volunteer work)?
I am currently a member of the Parent Engagement Committee and have previously served on the school’s leadership team. These experiences have allowed me to collaborate with colleagues and families, contribute to school-wide initiatives, and support a positive and inclusive school community.
7. What is something interesting about you that your students would be surprised to learn?
I have a three-year-old dog named Kobe, who brings joy and balance to my life outside of the classroom.
8. If you could pass along one piece of advice to your students, what would it be?
Always try your best, you don’t have to be perfect, just give your best effort every day. Never give up, some things are hard at first but keep trying, you’ll get it!
