“Mom, I want to play tennis again, that was fun,” says my 10-year-old boy, Will, after participating in tennis at Five Seasons Family Sports Club’s Kids Camp. Rewind to one week earlier it was, “No, mommy I don’t want to play tennis.” I couldn’t believe my ears.

Five Seasons Cincinnati top notch tennis program has attracted professional tennis players from all over. If you’ve been itching to give this high-energy sport a try, Five Seasons is a great place to begin. In turn, if you are a skilled tennis athlete looking for a challenge, yes, Five Seasons is also the place to go.

When I learned about the tennis programs they offer for kids and adults, I was intrigued. Although I am no adamant tennis player, I enjoy the sport and want to learn more, and so do my kids.

Tennis for Kids and Adults

My 6 and 10 year old joined in on Five Seasons‘ Kids Camp where they not only play fun games and swim, they play and learn tennis, too. This was their first introduction to tennis, ever, and they took off. I was so proud watching them try something new, and enjoy it, too! My was mind blown by how quickly they picked up tennis! The older kids spent more time playing singles and doubles, while the younger kiddos (including my 6-year-old, Eva) took breaks playing games on the court including “Red Light, Green Light.” Everything was deemed age-appropriate to help gauge their individual interests and it worked. Being able to watch them from birds-eye view of the tennis court (parents are welcome to watch from the lobby!) was enlightening.

If your kids have been on the court before are following the tennis pathway, Five Seasons has a fantastic Junior Tennis program for kids. Whether they are starting tournament play, competitive or if they are a middle school and high school student wanting to prepare for the next school year, the options are all there. Led by top-level, professional coaches, this program will get your big kids out and ready on the courts in no time. Read all about it and get your active kiddos signed up here.

Tennis for Beginners

Five Seasons also offers beginner programs for everyone. Beginner Tennis Program’s for juniors includes Ignition (members and non-members, ages 8-18); and adult programs include Ace for adults which focuses on tennis fundamentals. You will learn the game and begin playing immediately all the while meeting other players of every level to help you along the way and help build your confidence. I specifically gave one of their Monthly Drill Options a try, Drill and Play, which consists of weekly, themed practices with an emphasis on double tactics, strategy and situational point play. This made my overall experience very welcoming and wow was it inspiring.

Learn from the Tennis Pros

The tennis programs at this well-rounded sports facility are astonishing and so are the Tennis professionals who coach you every step of the way.  Showing up to the court, admittedly, I was intimidated. I saw a group of women playing who looked as if they knew the sport like the back of their tennis racket. I was worried I would walk in and look like some novice tennis player, obviously unskilled at this energetic, fun sport. However, what happened was the complete opposite.

The patient pro teacher who was instructing the weekly Drills and Skills class greeted me right away. He handed me a tennis racket and showed me the ropes within minutes. Before I knew it, I was laughing with other ladies, learning right along with them. We were all different levels, some more experienced and some beginners like myself. It was fun and also empowering – to my surprise, I wasn’t all that bad. Honestly, I felt like a kid again. I was running round, meeting friends and having fun!

In addition, Five Seasons also offers fun, monthly tennis options include Men’s Night, Round Robin, Cardio Tennis, Team Play and Seasonal Court Time. Learn more about their many tennis options here.

Pickleball

Afterward, my confidence high, I was encouraged to try pickleball. What’s pickleball, you ask? I didn’t know either, in fact right now, not many people know about this fast-growing sport. If I had to explain it, it’s like tennis and ping pong mashed together. Speaking with the pickleball expert who joined me on the court, many people enjoy this over tennis as it’s a more doable sport for a wider ranged audience. Two or four players use solid paddles to hit a perforated polymer ball over a net, the ball is much like a Wiffle ball actually. All-in-all, it’s a great sport to play with a group of close friends. To my surprise, I really enjoyed it! Five Seasons is full of surprises.
