Cincinnati Family Magazine was fortunate enough to see BTTF: TM on opening night. The acting, dancing, fighting and singing were absolutely amazing. Lucas Hallauer really embodied the Marty McFly role; there were several moments and little pauses for laughs where we were like, “Man, that is a young Michael J. Fox right there!”. Mike Bindeman’s rendition of George McFly was perfectly awkward; the way he contorted his lanky body had the audience cackling. A special shout out to Cartreze Tucker aka Mayor Goldie whose pipes literally dropped our jaws. Casting was spot on—each part was perfectly played, and we could go through the whole cast with compliments, but to keep you reading… we will just say: A+ across the board to every cast member. The last star we will rave on: the special effects. They had us glancing over at our theater companion to quizzically mouth the words, “Whaaaaaat?” and “Howwwww?”. We don’t want to spoil anything for you, but some of the tech used is really wow-worthy and sometimes even giggle-inducing! We truly enjoyed the show and would recommend it for families, a date night or girls/bros night out.

Star of Back to the Future: The Musical, Lucas Hallauer answered a few more questions for us about his present AND his future, too!

PRESENT
Favorite part of being in Cincinnati?

The audiences in Cincinnati have been so amazing and enthusiastic. It’s amazing to hear people’s reactions to a stage adaptation of a movie that they love so much.
Kid submitted: How do you remember all of your lines?
I usually start by reading through the script a few times just to get a general sense of the story. Then I go scene by scene and try to memorize it one line at a time. Usually having another person to run lines with helps me – and I tell them to stop me if I get even a single word wrong. Lots of practice makes perfect!
If you could go back in time to a different era, which one would you want to visit?
I’d be really interested to see the 80’s or 90’s when my parents were kids and see what it was like.
What does a “day in the life” look like for you while working on Back to the Future: The Musical?
I try to rest a lot before doing the show. I spend a lot of time onstage and running around so that takes a lot of energy out of me. I try to go to the gym at least twice a week to keep my stamina up and drink a lot of water. I also try to explore the cities I am in as much as possible and Cincinnati has been so beautiful so far.

FUTURE
Do you have a dream role?
I have lots of dream roles that I’ve been thinking about since I was a kid and also some that have manifested more recently. Growing up I always wanted to be Boq in Wicked (a dream I still possess) and my favorite Disney movie when I was younger was Hunchback of Notre Dame so Quasimodo has always been up there for me. Recently I’ve been drawn to more Pop/Rock roles like Marty (which was absolutely a dream role for me) and I’d love to originate a role in a new musical.
How about a dream theatre or city where you would like to land a role?
It’s always been my dream to be performing in a Broadway show in NYC, but touring the country has proven to be such an amazing experience and getting to see so many amazing places has been one of the highlights of my career thus far.
For “future” kids who want to act: what advice do you have?
Don’t be afraid to go for it. I always say that confidence is key and work ethic is everything. If you work hard and feel confident in your ability, you will go far.
