Walk through history of firefighting beginning in the 1800s and continuing to present day. Explore the development of uniforms and equipment. Pretend to be a firefighter and slide down the pole! My son’s favorite activity was the front half of a deconstructed fire engine. He turned on the lights and yelled, “Emergency!” over the radio! On display, there was an artifact of the World Trade Center that made me reflect back to that day. Did you know Cincinnati has profound roots in firefighting? The museum used to be Engine Company #45 and later became the Cincinnati Fire Museum! Keep an eye out for exciting future developments, too!
A few safety tips to remember are to test smoke detectors monthly around the house and replace batteries if needed; create and practice a fire escape plan; stop, drop and roll if clothing catches on fire; crawl low to the ground if there is an active fire.
Plus, don’t miss out on annual holiday events! This weekend marks the annual Cincinnati Fire Museum Santa Rescue taking place at 12 p.m. sharp on Saturday, November 26 – it is free to watch! After the brave rescue performed by a Cincinnati Fire Department ladder truck, come inside to meet Santa and warm up with hot chocolate for the price of museum admission (ages 6 and younger are free.)
