1. 4H & Utopia Fair!
Get into some summer fun before school gets your life all scheduled again! Boone County Kentucky 4H & Utopia Fair takes place Aug. 4 – 9. Pay one price of $10 per person for ages 3 and older and get parking, unlimited rides, and access to Grandstand Events. Kids can join a Fair Fishing Frenzy, The Great Rock Race, and plenty of fun contests, like the Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, a Sunflower Seed Spitting Contest, Frog Jumping Contests and more. Families can enjoy a variety of horse shows, or motor and tractor shows, as well as art, photography and flower shows. 2. Critters in the Crick
Explore some Critters in the Crick with the Kenton County Parks & Recreation Department on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9 – 11 a.m. Go on an in-stream hike that lets you investigate a stream bed and plenty of aquatic life, including salamanders, fish, frogs and maybe even a turtle or water snake. 3. Festival on the Lake
Join a Festival on the Lake at A.J. Jolly Park (1565 Race Track Road, Alexandria) on Saturday, Aug. 16! This year’s “Music and Winefest” kicks off with a 5K and a 10K race, followed by fun activities like a Horse Trail Challenge, canoe and kayak rentals, tree climbing, a fishing derby, kids games, a cruise-in, crafts and plenty of food and drinks. Live music will be offered throughout the day, so bring along some lawn chairs to sit and enjoy the many bands who will perform. Cost is $5 per carload. Visit jollyparkcdc.com for details!
4. Touch a Truck
Bring the kids to Touch-a-Truck on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at England Idlewild Park (5550 Idlewild Road, Burlington). Kids can climb on all kinds of trucks, pretend to take them for a spin, learn about how different trucks are used for work and to help the community and more. Visit boonecounty.ky.org.
5. Fair & Horse Show
The Alexandria Fair and Horse Show takes place over Labor Day weekend, Aug. 27 – Sept. 1, and boasts 157 years of parades, pageants, contests for the kids, horse shows, a “just for fun” dog show, and more good fun.
