August 21 is your chance to view the first total solar eclipse in nearly 40 years, and what better way to get ready for the experience than with a few fun events at Boone County Public Libraries?

On Aug. 5, families can look up to the stars with NASA astronomer Kevin Manning (2 p.m. at the Main Branch).

Haile Planetarium Director Crista Speights will talk about the summer of sun on Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Walton Branch.

Prepare for the eclipse with Cincinnati Observatory astronomer Dean Regas on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Chapin Memorial Library.

Lastly, enjoy One World One Sky with Discovery Dome Planetarium on Aug. 14 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Scheben Branch (for ages 2 – 5).

The Boone County Public Library has received 1,000 pairs of certified viewing glasses, courtesy of STARnet, an organization dedicated to providing science and technology resources for libraries.  These glasses will be available at all BCPL locations beginning at noon on Aug. 21.  Learn more at bcpl.org.
