Suncatcher Hearts
Â
Want to make something special to show how they captured your heart? Try making this Suncatcher Heart. It is simple and easy to do … with the help of an adult of course. It will make for a beautiful hanging ornament for your window.
What you need:
Old Crayons (the chunky ones are better)
Cheese Grater
Wax Paper
Iron
Newspaper
Hole Punch
Yarn or Ribbon
Safety Scissors
What you do:
- Grate the crayons to get different colors of shavings (Parents should do this). Or the children can use the crayon sharpener on the back of the big box of crayons
- Lay out two pieces of wax paper
- Sprinkle the Crayon shavings on one sheet of the wax paper
- Cover with the other sheet of wax paper
- Take a thick layer of newspaper over to where the iron is plugged in (this is to protect your area from getting the wax on the surface
- Carefully lay the wax paper with the crayon shavings between them on the newspaper
- Add a second layer of newspaper over the wax paper
- Iron for about 10 seconds if iron setting is on high
- Check to see if the crayon shavings are melting (You only want to slightly melt them)
- If melted, you are done. If not, iron a few seconds more (NOTE: Be careful not to melt the crayon shavings to a liquid consistency, this will just make a big mess!)
- Let it cool
- Take your scissors and cut out a shape
- Punch a hole near the edge on which ever side you like
- Tie a piece of yarn or ribbon through it to let it hang
