Suncatcher Hearts

Want to make something special to show how they captured your heart? Try making this Suncatcher Heart. It is simple and easy to do … with the help of an adult of course. It will make for a beautiful hanging ornament for your window.

What you need:
Old Crayons (the chunky ones are better)
Cheese Grater
Wax Paper
Iron
Newspaper
Hole Punch
Yarn or Ribbon
Safety Scissors

What you do:

  1. Grate the crayons to get different colors of shavings (Parents should do this). Or the children can use the crayon sharpener on the back of the big box of crayons
  2. Lay out two pieces of wax paper
  3. Sprinkle the Crayon shavings on one sheet of the wax paper
  4. Cover with the other sheet of wax paper
  5. Take a thick layer of newspaper over to where the iron is plugged in (this is to protect your area from getting the wax on the surface
  6. Carefully lay the wax paper with the crayon shavings between them on the newspaper
  7. Add a second layer of newspaper over the wax paper
  8. Iron for about 10 seconds if iron setting is on high
  9. Check to see if the crayon shavings are melting (You only want to slightly melt them)
  10. If melted, you are done. If not, iron a few seconds more (NOTE: Be careful not to melt the crayon shavings to a liquid consistency, this will just make a big mess!)
  11. Let it cool
  12. Take your scissors and cut out a shape
  13. Punch a hole near the edge on which ever side you like
  14. Tie a piece of yarn or ribbon through it to let it hang
