Mom Tax

Federal income tax, state income tax, sales tax, property tax, hotel tax…all collecting money. However, there is one fantastic tax, which I like to call MOM TAX!

Mom tax is the best tax! What is Mom Tax? Mom tax is a bite or a taste of anything tasty that I buy for my kids. There is also a Dad Tax in our house. My husband and I feel that if we pay for a tasty treat for our kids, we should get a bite or two, too!

I don’t need a “mom tax” on their daily cup of prune juice, but anytime we go to Chick-fil-a, The Cone, Menchies, Graeters, a stop on the Donut Trail … I am collecting my mom tax. I don’t collect on the last, melted, squished piece of food, but I get the very first bite. At first my kids whined and fussed that I was taking some of their delish treat, but now it is such a routine, that they fill up a spoon and remind me (not that I would need it) to take my tax. It has taught them to share not only with me, but also with each other! I will often hear, “Let’s take a sister and brother tax!” to which they share some with each other. We also find that taking our “tax” wastes less food. There is no way our kids can finish even the kid sized treats on their own, so we save money by not buying ourselves any and helping them off with theirs. Today I got to eat some of my kid’s delicious ice cream from Graeters … while they laughed and documented my “Mom Tax” for their dad!
