Mom Report: Madagascar, A Musical Adventure

“I like to move it, move it
I like to move it, move it
I like to move it, move it
We like to move it!”

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati has put together another fantastic show! As soon as my kids saw Alex, Marty, Melman, and Gloria, they quickly made the connection of the animals to the movie Madagascar. Haven’t seen the movie? No worries, you and your children will love the show even if you are not familiar with the movie.

The music was upbeat and fun and had my kids dancing in their seats. Actually, when looking around, kids and adults of all ages were moving to the beat. The penguins had us all laughing with their antics and King Julien likes a good party. My children questioned how people would play animals on our trip down to the Taft, but the costumes were amazing and really helped the actors portray the characters, my favorite was Alex as his lion costume looked like he could be a member of an 80’s hair band.

If your children are members of the kid’s club, they will enjoy picking up their gift before the show, a stuffed hippo, which my children quickly named Fiona of course, sorry Gloria. They enjoyed pumping their hippo into the air each time Gloria sang. Honestly, I am jealous of their new stuffed animals! They are adorable!

My son’s favorite part was when the stage went dark and the fossa’s came out. He was curious to see what the animals would do. My daughter has been quoting Gloria all afternoon, “Melman, are you allergic to sugar?” My husband’s favorite part is when King Julien offered Alex the lion a cookie. I couldn’t stop laughing when Alex faced a little old lady…you are going to have to go see the show to find out why.

So, “move it, move it” and grab your tickets today! You are not going to want to miss this show.
