Life moves as fast as heat lightning in the summer sky. The kids are growing like weeds, and while summer break feels like it just started, it simultaneously feels like it is almost over. As parents, we are all chasing the kind of fun memories that the kids will remember when they are grown and have kids of their own. Our days are spent chauffeuring our children to play dates, swim lessons, sports, and sometimes it feels a little overwhelming.

It is so important to remind ourselves to slow down, and to enjoy the little moments … the ones from which memories are really made. Stop and smell the flowers. Yes, this is a sentimental idiom, but I’m also urging you to literally take the time to inhale the aromas of nature’s beauty! Surround yourself in the beauty of nature, and let it swallow you up, melting your stress away. This summer, take a moment to smell the beautiful flowers, and enjoy some quality time with your children at the Krohn Conservatory Apothecary Soul Garden show. Slow down. Make memories.

The Apothecary Soul Garden summer show is a feast for the eyes. If you look a little closer, you will gain an understanding that a beautiful garden can also feed, and heal your body, mind, and soul. As you browse the delicate bottles, and vials of the rustic apothecary, you can learn about the medicinal benefits of herbs, and plants.

With admission, you are welcome to enjoy the other greenhouse exhibitions of the conservatory. My children love imagining the rain forest room as a prehistoric landscape; they tiptoe around, looking for dinosaurs. And of course they love the waterfall, and “cave” too! The Conservatory is a great gem in our city, especially with the themed seasonal gardens. There is always something new to discover! We can’t wait to visit this fall for “At Home in the Garden” and again in winter for “A Crystal Holiday.” Be sure to click here to print out a $1 off coupon for the shows!

The Krohn summer show runs daily 10am-5pm through August 19 (closed Mondays).

Adult admission is $4, children ages 4-17 are $2, ages 4 and under are free.

Make a day of your time in the park — walk to scenic Eden Park and enjoy a picnic, and be sure to take a panoramic photo of our beautiful city. Then the kiddos can check out the nice woodland themed playground, too!

Enjoy your memories!
