Need an idea for something to do this wintry month? Consider livening up these cold days with a fun concert the whole family can enjoy. The Boone County Public Library offers free concerts this month, including:
P’s in a Pod Sunday, February 12, Florence Branch (7425 US 42, Florence), 2 p.m.
Named for its founders Pat and Polly Giblin, P’s in a Pod plays bluegrass classics and contemporary songs in a bluegrass style. Their set list runs the gamut from Flatt and Scruggs and Johnny Cash to the Beatles. The band has evolved over the past six years to include not only Pat on guitar and Polly on banjo, but also Dan Lynch on mandolin and Mindy Reichelt on upright bass.
Jump ‘n Jive Big Band Friday, February 17, Main Library (1786 Burlington Pike, Burlington), 7 p.m.
With swingin’ arrangements, this band includes trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and more! Enjoy an energetic concert of music from the past and support musicians who dedicate their time and concert earnings to purchase instruments for students through the Cincinnati Music Foundation.
New Horizons Orchestra Saturday, February 18, Main Library, 1 p.m.
An interactive demonstration of music-making! This orchestra is the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Preparatory & Engagement’s premier ensemble geared toward adult learners. Many of the orchestra members never played a string instrument before joining. Led by CCM faculty member Dr. Betty Anne Gottlieb, the orchestra will perform, talk about their experiences with music and encourage audience members to try their instruments. This performance is part of the ArtWave’s Macy’s Arts Sampler 2017.
