Cincinnati’s Majestic Music Hall opened on May 14th, 1878. Showcasing Cincinnati performances and events for 200+ years, this beautiful building continues to house ornate beauty within! The tall ceilings inspire eyes to gaze upwards at all of the intricate moulding and painting. There are large auditoriums and a breathtaking ballroom where people continue to laugh, rejoice and find themselves awestruck with talent.
But.
Pre-Music Hall. The land located in current day OTR was once a Potter’s Field. In the early 1800’s this public burial ground became the final resting place for many Cincinnatian’s, as major flooding and a massive cholera outbreak made its way through the area. Beyond that, the land was also used as an orphan asylum and a military hospital during the Civil War.
During various construction projects over the years, bones have been uncovered, with some skeletal remains being re-interred at Spring Grove Cemetery.
And yes, many a shadows have reportedly gone bump in the night at Music Hall! 3 – 4 a.m. seems to be a gathering time for ghosties, with claims coming in from former CEO’s, music directors, night watchmen and more.
