Does your tot hate to have his hair washed?  Try these tried-and-true tips from moms:

 • First, wet your child’s hair with a washcloth so you don’t have to pour water on his head

• Next, sing a song!  “This is the way we wash your hair, wash you hair, wash your hair … this is the way we wash your hair so early in the evening!”

• Now, make it fun by making hair spikes out of the shampoo and show him with a hand mirror

Didn’t work?  Try these other suggestions:

• Some moms use goggles when washing their toddler’s hair!

• Use a washcloth puppet to help wash your child’s hair

• Try lots of praise: Start with something like, “You’re such a good girl! Time to wash my sweetie’s hair!” or, “Oh, I like how you are washing your tummy!” “You’re so good about that!” “Now let’s get your hair wet … good girl!” And so on …

• Many toddlers will respond if you tell them to look at “the sky,” then, while keeping a hand on his forehead to keep water from running onto his face, pour water from a large, plastic cup over the top of his tilted back head and keeping your hand in place to keep the water away, allowing water to cascade down his back
