Nature is shifting, changing from sweltering summer days to nights with crisper air… some leaves are even starting to change color, revealing a deeper rust color. Fall is upon us!
Fall means memories of raking leaves, picking pumpkins, hayrides, campfires and time spent bonding with the family.
The Colson Family is making memories at their 250 acre dairy farm, lovingly adding new attractions, renovating and upgrading. What started as a few pumpkins for sale on the side of the road in 2000, the farm fun grew each year. In 2009 the Colson’s readied their working farm together to create the inaugural Fall Festival. Now is the time for your family to visit Country Pumpkins, make yourselves at home and enjoy Fall farm FAMILY fun together.
Each season the festival gets better and better- with tons of great additions this year! The Colson’s have been working hard all summer long preparing for their autumnal time to shine. The entire family has been put to work building, painting and even the littlest family members have been put to work by testing out the fun stuff first and giving it an official kids seal of approval. Now is the time for your family to visit Country Pumpkins, make yourselves at home and enjoy Fall farm FAMILY fun together.
So what is new this year?
New farm friends!
Jenny the donkey gave birth to a sweet little foal this summer. His name, Forrest, was chosen through a social media naming contest! Come see Forrest bray and play at the Pumpkin Ridge petting zoo with the rest of the adorable farm animals.
New play equipment!
Brand new this year, kids can dig, dump, pour and of course make corn angels in the new HUGE corn pit! The Colson’s took advantage of last year’s corn maze crop, ran it through a combine and got to building the pit. This GIANT sensory bin gets two-thumbs up from kids. Pumpkin Ridge also has three huge new tunnel slides!
The corn pit and slides will be joining many other must-play attractions at Pumpkin Ridge. Country Pumpkin’s also boasts a hay pyramid, sand tunnels play area, kiddie corn maze and so much more.
New fire pit!
The Country Pumpkin’s family knew they wanted to add a fire pit to the farm this year. They dreamed about what it would look like, about the families that would sit there together during Fall Festival and they smiled as they thought about the orangey-purpley-pink Kentucky sunsets that would be seen this fall from this new area.
The idea was planted and the hard work would soon follow. This summer, Matt Colson visited with a neighbor and purchased some beautiful reclaimed barn wood, then the family architect drew up some plans. After that planning, some pressure washing, chain sawing and building- the fire pits gorgeous benches were born! Then after a trip to the creek to gather rocks, more pressure washing, planning, measuring, backhoeing, concrete mixing, leveling and light hanging… a beautiful gathering place featuring a fire pit was no longer just a dream!
This new space is rich with the hard work of a family, rocks from the families actual creek and benches made with the help of a friendly neighbor.
Upgraded Party Shelter!
Looking to celebrate a birthday, new baby, retirement or just have a family gathering? The Country Pumpkin’s family got their tractor bucket, some supplies and some muscles to renovate their party shelter. With the addition of metal siding, the space is perfect for your family’s parties so make your reservation and send your ‘save-the-date’ cards for your NKY farm party!
Upgraded Gift Shed!
The Colson’s are always looking for a way to make the Country Pumpkins experience better each and every year. When Shelley Colson looked at the gift shed that was added in 2020, she saw a blank slate… a project! After shopping for paint supplies and drafting up a plan, she got to work. With a rustic farm feel and a bright, happy sunflower photo opp painted on the back, the shed is no longer simple… it is seriously chic! A gift shed makeover is just another example of a family focusing on the little details and really setting the autumn ambiance! And of course, the shed is stocked full with adorable crafts and fall items available for purchase.
