Spring has sprung and life is full of growth and change right now! Just like every flower blooms at its own rate, every child is unique and develops at their own pace, too.
If you are concerned your child is struggling to blossom, it may feel difficult to know when to seek help. Are they developing at their own pace, or do they truly need some extra help? If these questions sound familiar, ABC Pediatric Therapy has a developmental screening tool so families can help identify red flags, check it out HERE.
If a child is having a hard time meeting recommended milestones like sitting, rolling, crawling, balancing or walking, there are many tools available to help children’s gross motor skills flourish and grow. And the great news is that therapy at ABC Pediatric Therapy is fun!
So, What are Gross Motor Skills?
Maneuvers which require whole body movement are gross motor skills. In fact, many day-to-day activities require the use of gross motor skills. Young children utilize their gross motor skills when they are sitting upright, crawling, rolling over, standing, walking, running and jumping.
Why is Early Intervention so Important?
Many of the skills that children develop in their infancy and toddlerhood stack upon one another like building blocks- so having a strong physical foundation is important. Difficulty with one milestone may cause a delay in other areas; for example, an infant experiencing a deficit with their balance may go on to find it difficult to put on their clothes or carry out school routines like sitting at a desk and carrying their backpack. Gross motor skills can be developed through fun and play and applied to important self-care routines and everyday tasks. Early Intervention provides families with tools to succeed, and many of the therapeutic activities look just like playing.
What to Expect
