The annual Nature Conservancy Global Photo Contest is now open for submissions!

This competition is open to all, and will be accepting entries through September 29th. This year, Ohio prizes will be awarded  in three categories: Wildlife + People and Nature +  Landscape. By entering your most captivating photos of nature you can help amplify the message that protecting and restoring it is a priority.

While last year’s competition broke records for global participation with over 100,000 entries from a total of 196 countries and territories, the 2023 rendition of this celebrated event is set to be the biggest ever. For the first time in the contest’s history, the number of award categories has doubled, from six to a whopping 12.

  • Oceans
  • People & Nature
  • Plants & Fungi
  • Freshwater
  • Lands
  • Mammals
  • Climate
  • Aerials
  • Insects & Arachnids
  • Underwater Life
  • Birds
  • Reptiles & Amphibian

The expansion will give photographers the freedom to better define their submissions—and provide more opportunities to win.

Also new this year, by entering the global photo contest, images taken in Ohio will be eligible to receive local prizes. From the picturesque shores of Lake Erie to the rolling hills of the Appalachian region, there’s so much to explore and capture! Whether you’re a resident of Ohio or a visitor captivated by the natural wonders of the Buckeye State, we invite you to showcase your talent, connect with fellow nature enthusiasts and create lasting memories through the art of photography.

In addition to global prizes, there will be one $500 grand prize winner chosen for Ohio along with $250 cash prizes for top images submitted in three categories: Wildlife, People and Nature, and Landscapes.

Submissions for Ohio images will be assessed by a prestigious panel of judges, including Coyote Peterson, Emmy award winning host of Brave Wilderness, Jen Britton, founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and TNC staff.

Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to enter. All winners will be announced in October 2023.
