Looking to take your child on a relaxing date full of learning opportunities? Check out Pinot’s Palette! Pinot’s Palette is a great place for a night out with friends, a date night with your hubby (my husband had a great time going with me!), or some special bonding time with your kiddo! My most recent date with my son was at Pinot’s Palette and it turned out to be more than just an afternoon together, it was a two hour art lesson that kept my son’s full attention.
My son enjoyed going on a name hunt to find where the two of us were going to sit. Pinot’s wrote our name in chalk on the table where we would be sitting. Our instructor Teri, was oh-so-patient with adults and children alike. She provided me and my son additional paint as we wanted to personalize our mice with some Maize and Blue. The mommy and me class (soon to be called “mini” class) had each of us painting our own canvas. One painter did the right part of the scene and the other painter did the left. When you pushed the canvases together the mice we painted were ice skating together. The instructor moved slowly through all of the steps explaining what the right painter and left painter had to do.
My son completed his painting independently! He sat quietly listening to our instructor break things down into shapes … which made painting the mouse easier for me too. She had us measure using our fingers and scoop paint and count the scoops to make new colors. We had to use our math skills with the shapes, counting, and measuring, but we also learned the “magic” of mixing colors. We also practiced using our fine motor skills as we dipped our brushes into our small pools of paint and used our hand-eye coordination to paint those shapes on our canvas. My son and I practiced cooperation as we shared a piece of yellow chalk and a paper towel roll … both things we used a lot of.
Pinot’s had complimentary snacks, juice, and candy … which my son took full advantage of even though we brought our own. Pinot’s Palette does have a liquor license, but they do not serve alcohol during the kid/family painting times. We enjoyed eating, singing to the Disney music playing, and of course painting. My son’s favorite part was the group photo at the end, he felt like quite an important artist and in my eyes he is! Our masterpieces are already hanging and on display at home.
