March offers some unpredictable weather so while the forecast is looking sunny and dry take advantage of the programming at Highfield Discovery Center at Glenwood Gardens (10397 Springfield Pike)!
The current program is all about Maple Sugar and how it is tapped from trees and made into delicious maple syrup. The classroom is set up with display boards, hands on activities and books all about trees and maple sugaring that kids can explore during and after the scheduled program, which is currently Wednesday through Saturday at 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. During the class time, a naturalist talks about tree tapping and kids can even try out “tapping” for themselves. The best part is that everyone gets to sample some all-natural maple syrup, which tastes far better than anything found on a store shelf!
Before or after class kids can play in the huge tree fort with different passages and tunnels or push the buttons for the train at the station. There are many other fun things to engage with at Highfield Discovery Center and now is a great time of year to go with admission just being $2 per person!
