For as long as I can remember I have loved science…except organic chemistry! I enjoy sharing this love with my littles. When we moved to Ohio I had many friends tell me that I should check out COSI. After two and a half years living in Ohio, we finally made the trek up to Columbus to check out the place.
We were excited to find out our admission was FREE! We have an annual membership to the Cincinnati Museum Center and they have a reciprocal agreement with COSI. We just had to pay the $5 for parking. This made my husband happy!
Thank goodness COSI has maps.
1. My kids enjoy reading maps and deciphering what there is to see. It is also a great way to teach kids about map keys and symbols.
2. The place has so many fun rooms to check out. We would have missed them without the map.
After reviewing the map, my son decided that the LEGO exhibit should be our first stop … which didn’t surprise me or my husband. We headed to the room with the LEGO Travel Adventure exhibit (at COSI until May 8) and my kids enjoyed checking out all of the LEGO displays before heading over to make their own LEGO masterpieces. Seriously … no matter where I go I cannot escape the fun little bricks. They sat in a giant LEGO car and checked out the LEGO store conveniently located in the exhibit room.
Next we headed to the room my daughter chose which was the ocean display. It is a “Magical World of Water” indeed. It was by far one of the best interactive exhibits I have ever seen. You enter the exhibit looking at Poseidon. Kids learn about the physical nature of water while interacting with different stations and discovering the amazing “power” of laminar streams, energetic waves, and erosion. You can walk into another section and enter into a submarine. My son thought it was, “so cool!”
COSI has three floors of scientific fun. My kiddos danced to programed robots, pulled a bowling ball up and dropped it to create pressure to launch a tennis ball 20 feet up to a target, used microscopes, built circuits, and stepped into a telephone booth for the first time.
We had a fantastic time moving from room to room to see everything COSI had to offer. We also enjoyed the multiple student volunteers demonstrating science experiments throughout the building. We made it a two-day trip, but being less than two hours away we plan on making day trips up in the future. We look forward to going back when it is warmer and checking out the outdoor exhibits.
