My little guy follows his big sister’s every move. This spring, my goal was to find some activities that he really enjoyed and thrived in. We tried a few things that just were not his cup of tea. When we discovered The Little Gym of Mason, he not only enjoyed it, but he really blossomed and grew.

He went from entering the Super Beasts class with assistance, to going in independently in the Funny Bugs callada following the instructor’s lead. This is a spring board for him doing things like Vacation Bible School this summer and preschool in the fall (if only we can get him potty trained, but that is a whole different story). A friend recently commented that he still has all of his boy energy, is a lot calmer and follows directions a lot better. Much of this comes with maturity, but places like The Little Gym have really aided in his development.

As I wrote in my previous post about The Little Gym, their philosophy is to help kids grow emotionally, physically and relationally, and this reflected on my little boy.

Emotionally, my son leaned how to control his excitement; he stayed with his group rather than just running to play. Although there were lots of fun things to get into such as the climbing wall and uneven bars, he learned patience! Physically, he worked on his coordination through different activities like jumping over a rope, walking like various animals, working a forward role, and playing with scarves. Relationally, he had to learn to take turns and learn how to play with other kids who were bigger or smaller than him. With kids, good days and bad days will happen – there were some weeks where he really struggled to stay in task and listen to directions; the philosophy of the program and the kindness of the teachers gently reminded him to get back on track. This helped him to be successful. The really good weeks were when he listened to directions with limited intervention.

Going to The Little Gym was a great experience for my little boy – it was fun for my little guy and helped him burn off energy. It helped build his confidence, too! The Little Gym not only offers age appropriate classes, but they also offer summer camps. Now is a great time to look into the flexible and affordable themed summer based camps – including Dinosaurs, Superheroes, Pirates and even Dancing for the little ones!

Hands down, The Little Gym was a positive experience, and I would recommend it to anyone. I also picked up a few things along the way which has helped in our daily routine and transitions!
