Mom Report: My Favorite Local Online Classes

There are so many local, small businesses out there making a difference in our community, and finding creative ways to engage with and educate families while we stay at home!

While it seems like an eternity now, this self-quarantine will be short lived. The thought of being alone with our children for weeks on end without the help of classes, playgrounds and even story times at the library, seems daunting.

As necessity is the mother of invention, businesses have stepped up and used social platforms to help parents during this trying time.  I for one, am extremely grateful for the help and diversion they provide. There are many small businesses that have stepped up to assist families.

Linton Music Peanut Butter and Jam sessions

One of my favorite online classes – this daily class lasts 20 minutes and is presented by Elizabeth Hickerson and her daughter Ginger. Linton Peanut Butter and Jam started as an educational arm of Linton Chamber Music. Their main goal is to bring music to the people and this class does not disappoint.

It includes story time, live demonstrations with local musicians, crafts and my little one’s favorite – the hand washing song.  Perfect for ages 2 – 6-years old. You can catch them daily at 10 a.m. live on their Facebook page.

Follow them on Facebook Linton Music Peanut and Butter Jam Sessions or on their YouTube channel.

Great Parks of Hamilton County Parks @ Home

Learn how to build a fairy garden, go on a scavenger hunt or watch bath time with Mr. Turtle. Follow them on Facebook to see daily posts and activities.  The fairy garden has been our favorite.  Lessons about nature and protecting the environment are included in this project.

The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati

Sarah’s Music Room, a 20-minute music class for kids! YMCA’s Sarah presents videos every Tuesday and Thursday at 12 p.m. CST. Join them for music and merriment. youtu.be/PE8H0fb_3wE

The Little Gym of Mason

If you are looking for some movement classes, the Little Gym of Mason offers options for Mommy and Me, Pre-K and older siblings.  Classes incorporate everyday items in the home for fitness routines that engage little (and older ones).  Head to The Little Gym of Mason Facebook page for daily, active fun!

Star Glazers

While they do not offer online classes, Star Glazers will bring the pottery studio to you.  For a minimum charge, pottery options will be left on your door, complete with paint and brushes. Once your pieces are complete, leave on your doorstep and Star Glazers will pick them up, have them fired and glazed and return them to your front door. It is a great family activity. Hint:  Mother’s Day is quickly approaching! Contact Star Glazers at 513-474-6364 for more information.
