Kids Can Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Plop the little ones on the couch to watch the giant balloons, floats, performances and ... Santa at the end!

Traditions, traditions! The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been happening in New York City since 1924 and this year is the 97th parade! Taking place on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, the parade starts 30 minutes earlier than usual, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time and will wrap up about 12 p.m. Featuring 25 giant balloons, six “balloonicicles” (balloons led by tricycles); 31 floats, 11 marching bands, 18 musical performers, 29 clown crews and seven performance groups, it’s a giant spectacular production. New balloons this year include Beagle Scout Snoopy; Po from “Kung Fu Panda,” the Pillsbury Doughboy. Variety reported that 27.7 millions viewers tuned in last year to watch and around 3 million watched the parade in person.
