“Forrest canopy,
Shields us from the bright sunlight,
Houses woodland friends.”
The Fort Thomas Tree Trail in Fort Thomas, Ky is a hidden gem that I was just recently introduced to. This 1.1 mile trail boasts 22 marked trees, many of which are 100 years or older.
This is a moderately difficult trail that would be best for older children. However, I have taken my toddlers on this trail and they love it! My 3 1/2 year old typically makes it almost the whole way before needing a break and my almost 2 year old tuckers out about half way through.
There are some steep hills, so make sure to wear sturdy shoes. I also would recommend bringing water with you, and maybe even a snack. There are 4 benches along the trail if you need to rest.
On our recent adventure, we enjoyed taking in nature. We turned rocks over and saw mounds of pill bugs, ants with larvae (my boys loved the eggs!!!), centipedes, tons of worms and other creepy crawlers.
If your kids enjoy hiking in the woods, check out this great trail! If they still have energy, the wonderful Tower Park playground is located nearby.
The Fort Thomas Landmark Tree Trail is located near Tower Park off Douglas Drive — parking is available at the entrance of the trail, or at the Sports Complex parking lot.
