I recently had a mommy-daughter date to Broadway in Cincinnati’s “Frozen” at the Aronoff Center with my tiny 6-year-old Anna and Elsa fan, Eva. She had so many questions on our drive to the show: Is it a show? Is it about Frozen I or Frozen II? Will Anna and Elsa be on stage? Can I meet them?
I had questions myself.
How they will really make Elsa’s magic look realistic? Will there be new musical numbers? Unfamiliar scenes? I felt like a kid on a Christmas.
Off we were, dressed up and ready to go somewhere; Eva in her finest Anna dress.
Just entering the theater is always so stunning. I love how fancy the Aronoff Center is, and all of the lovely Frozen decor and gift items were surrounding us. We jumped in line for some snacks and couldn’t bypass the snowflake cookies and the “Hot” or “Cold” specialty kid-friendly drinks. Then it was off to the performance.
The show began with favorite scenes and familiar Frozen hits like “Do you want to build a snowman,” and then there were all-new songs which really blew my mind. The story we all know was being told all while incorporating a special, unique touch to the show. This take on Frozen made me connect better with each character and sort of see the other side of things. What was even more entertaining was seeing the look on my daughter’s intrigued little face. She was immediately pulled into the magic.
When Elsa graced the stage, the audience grew loud and the stage lit up. I don’t want to give anything away, but what I can say is, the magic and characters were as real as it gets. Sven, Olaf, Arendelle turning to ice and Elsa performing “Let it Go!” was outstanding. Also not to spoil any scenes, the way they portrayed “someone” turning to ice was astonishing. This is coming from not only a kid’s point of view, my an adult’s, too. When it was intermission time, Eva’s jaw dropped, “It’s not over is it? Will they come back?” I laughed and reassured her there was so much more to come!
Emotions soared, from laughter to tears, and I loved every magical moment with my daughter. I highly recommend you grab your tickets this weekend to Frozen before Arendelle freezes over, May 1!
