Don’t miss the 12th Annual Boone County Early Childhood Fair on Saturday, February 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Boone County Public Library, Main Library, 1786 Burlington Pike in Burlington! The Early Childhood Fair will provide families the opportunity to speak with local businesses, agencies, and schools about the educational, developmental, and recreational opportunities available to young children in the area. Over 40 vendors will be available to answer questions about early childhood services, and provide information on how to support the growth and development of our youngest learners. Visitors can also register to win door prizes.
Tales, the Library dragon, will be on-hand to meet and greet the kids and pose for photos. Families can spend quality time together at the fair and take the opportunity to visit the Robot Zoo during its final month of the exhibit at the Library. For more information about the Robot Zoo, visit www.bcpl.org.
Two free screening opportunities will be offered to families by appointment. Boone County Community Early Childhood Council (CECC) will be sponsoring free developmental screenings for children 1 month through 5 years of age focusing on children’s cognitive, language, motor, and social skills. A screening will not only allow parents to catch problems early, but can also provide reassurance that their child is acting, playing or speaking in ways that are expected at different ages. At the end of the screening, parents will have a good understanding of what developmental milestones have been reached, what to expect next, and what activities can be done at home to support learning and development. They will also learn if their child needs additional services and where to find these resources.
The Kentucky Lions Club Kidsight program will provide vision screenings for children 1 through age 5.The first 5 years of life lay the foundation for future learning.Screenings are available at the Early Childhood Fair, by appointment, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please call 859.534.5810 to schedule.
