We love all things drawing, painting, mixed media and process art! The finished projects are simply a bonus of all the learning, playing and growing! In our studio, all children are welcome and will feel part of the community here, whether they attend a traditional school or are a homeschool family. You can rest assured that our teachers are qualified, inspirational and are ready to impart a love of learning and curiosity! We are ready and willing to host the messy art projects, so that you don’t have to!
Our happy, welcoming art studio is a place of artful memory-making and learning. Even our building is memorable! Exposed brick, gothic arches of stained glass windows and an eclectic black and white floor characterizes our former church transformed into a gorgeous, farmhouse-style art studio for kids and adults!
About Jessica Blankenship, art teacher and co-founder:
Using my 12+ years of experience as an art teacher and various roles in Children’s ministry, I started The Artful Gathering to create an atmosphere of JOY and a love of learning for all, naturally artistic or not. I find inspiration from nature, cultural heritage, and interesting materials. You can read about my vision for art as a childhood rite of passage in the book, “On Earth As In Heaven: A Collection of the Hopes and Dreams Heart-Centered Women have for a better world, and what they’re doing to make their dreams a reality.” (Available on Amazon)
Modern lives are sterile, the heart and soul slowly being removed. I want to offer my gifts as a practical guide to moms, youth leaders, teachers, and whomever needs joy, like I did. I believe and know that we can capture the attention of modern children and even harness some mindfulness in these young minds if we can model Wonder. We must show them the opportunity for wonder and cultivate an atmosphere of wonder. Teaching them to pause. I aim to capture that experience at The Artful Gathering.
I completed a bachelor’s degree in Art Education in 2009 (Mount St. Joseph) and a master’s degree in Gifted Education in 2014 (Northern Kentucky University). I’m a full time art teacher in a public school and have been leading annual private summer art camps since 2009, modeled after my college internship experience at the Taft Museum of Art summer camps.
