What is the camp’s mission and philosophy?
At the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati Day Camp, kids connect with new friends, discover new passions, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
What safety measures are in place?
Staff are required to perform monthly drills with the camps to ensure safety during emergencies. Staff are identifiable and we have dedicated camp spaces.
What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?
The American Camping Association recommends a staff to camper ratios of 1:6 for 5 year olds, 1:8 for 6-8 year olds, and 1:10 for 9-14 year olds.
How are staff members screened and trained?
Prior to hiring, each employee completes an interview session, reference checks, and a background check. YMCA employees receive Child Protection, CPR, and First Aid training as part of employment.
Is there a daily schedule, and can you provide an example?
Pre-camp is available before 9 a.m., from 9 a.m. – noon campers rotate through swimming, sports, and games. After lunch campers can participate in clubs and enrichment activities.
Are there opportunities for free play or downtime?
We offer weekly times of Camper’s Choice where the kids are able to create part of their own schedule.
How does the camp handle health issues and allergies?
The YMCA Day Camps follow the ACA guidelines for health and allergies. Families submit forms in advance so staff have prior knowledge and training on specific issues and allergies.
Are there opportunities for parents to visit or participate in camp activities?
With prior notification, parents can complete our security process to volunteer during special events or field trips at camp.
