Head to blue manatee children’s bookstore (3094 Madison Road) on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. to meet author Kristi Wientge, who will discuss and sign her debut novel for ages 8 – 12, Karma Khullar’s Mustache.
A Lebanon, Ohio, native, Wientge has lived in China and England as a teacher, and currently calls Singapore home. Her novel tackles the uncomfortable subject of female body hair and self-esteem in a novel that continues the tradition of Judy Blume stories. Karma is nervously awaiting the start of middle school — her best friend has found a newer friend, her dadima recently passed away, her dad is the new stay-at-home parent while her mom spends more time at work, and she has discovered 17 hairs on her upper lip. Readers will enjoy — and probably relate — to this story of tackling adolescence and navigating the tricky waters of middle school.
