Reviving a Neighborhood Legacy: Meiser’s Fresh Grocery & Deli Serves Lower Price Hill

Cincinnati, OH — In the heart of Lower Price Hill, a community legacy lives on through Meiser’s Fresh Grocery & Deli, a non-profit grocery store rooted in tradition and built on a foundation of community resilience, fresh food access, and economic opportunity.

Originally established in the 1940s as Meiser’s Parkview Market, the store was a beloved staple for generations of residents. When the Meiser family retired in 2017, the neighborhood wasn’t ready to say goodbye. Instead, local residents, in collaboration with the nonprofit Price Hill Will, rallied to reimagine the space. The result? A revitalized and rebranded community hub — Meiser’s Fresh Grocery & Deli — that honors the past while looking toward the future.

Fresh Food, Local Focus

Meiser’s isn’t your typical grocery store. It’s a mission-driven operation focused on serving Cincinnati’s food desert communities with dignity and accessibility. Offering a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy, bulk dry goods, spices, pantry staples, and grab-and-go meals, Meiser’s makes healthy eating both affordable and attainable.

With flexible payment options — including SNAP, WIC, credit, debit, cash, and even a sliding-scale donation model starting at $0 — Meiser’s ensures no one goes hungry. Home goods and prepared foods are also available, rounding out a one-stop-shop experience for the neighborhood.

Community-Centered, Resident-Led

The heartbeat of Meiser’s is its people. The store is led by local residents and collaborators who are deeply invested in the well-being of their neighbors. In addition to providing jobs to the community, Meiser’s supports budding entrepreneurs through in-store consignment and commercial food preparation programs — empowering both youth and adults to build futures in the food industry.

This isn’t just a place to shop — it’s a place to connect. Whether you’re grabbing lunch or sipping coffee, Meiser’s serves as a welcoming space where relationships are built, stories are shared, and the community grows stronger. Staff are trained in restorative practices and help connect visitors with local resources, news, and events.

A Recipe Renaissance

True to the tradition of home cooking in Lower Price Hill, Meiser’s is also cultivating a “recipe renaissance.” Local cooks are encouraged to contribute recipes and the stories behind them, which are shared in-store through displays, printed materials, and cooking demonstrations — inspiring creativity and connection through food.

As one neighbor fondly put it: “What I miss most about having a local store is that it was some place where you walk in to buy a coffee and they know you… I live alone, and people asked how I’m doing.”

At Meiser’s Fresh Grocery & Deli, that sentiment lives on every day.
