My family has been counting down the days until The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s Peter Pan Jr. hit the stage at the Taft Theatre. We visited our local library, picked up Peter Pan books, and enjoyed reading them together. Both of my kids are bookworms and I knew they would enjoy seeing the story “jump” off the page and onto the stage.

The day finally came and we were excited to make our first trip to the Taft Theatre. We checked out the concessions with their tasty cookies and Peter Pan themed items before heading into the theatre. On the way in, we grabbed a booster for our youngest so that she could have a higher view. We were also given programs. They had different versions of the programs for adults and for kids.

Once seated, we were greeted by a large map of Neverland on the stage and then the director shared information about the upcoming shows, the classes that The Children’s Theatre offers, and talked about some theatre etiquette.

The entire show, a little over an hour long, held my children’s attention. They loved following Tinker Bell around with their eyes, watching Peter Pan sprinkle pixie dust, and watching Wendy, Michael and John fly with Peter Pan for the first time. My kids recognized that Mr. Smee, Captain Hook, and Tic-Toc Croc are all also characters in Jake and the Neverland Pirates. They enjoyed the costumes, the singing, and the dancing too. It was a fantastic show from start to finish! My son Landon, 6 years old, spent the entire show at the edge of his seat. He may or may not have blinked the entire time. His favorite part was, “when Peter Pan and Captain Hook sword fought.” Evelyn, 4 years old, could not pick a favorite part, “I loved everything and the dog was so silly and funny!”
